The necessity of changing the water in the calorimeter

As the core equipment for accurately measuring heat, the internal circulating water of the calorimeter has a significant impact on the test results. Water is not only the medium for heat transfer, but also plays a key role in stabilizing the temperature of the instrument. If the water quality is poor or the water quantity is insufficient, the heat transfer efficiency will decrease, which will directly cause the deviation of the test results. Therefore, regular water change is a necessary operation to ensure the accurate operation of the calorimeter.

Determine the critical time to change the water

1. Water quality changes: When it is found that the circulating water is turbid, precipitated, has abnormal color, or produces a peculiar smell, it indicates that impurities or microorganisms have been mixed in the water. At this time, it is necessary to change the water immediately to avoid clogging the pipeline or corroding the instrument parts.

2. Frequency of use: If the calorimeter is used at high frequency for a long time, it is recommended to replace the water every 3-6 months. The specific cycle can be adjusted according to the actual use intensity. High-frequency use scenarios need to shorten the water change interval.

3. Abnormal test results: If the results of multiple tests of the same sample fluctuate widely, and after excluding operation and sample problems, there is a high probability that the water quality problem is caused, and the circulating water needs to be checked and replaced in time.

Calorimeter water change operation steps

1. Shut down and power off: Be sure to turn off the power of the calorimeter before changing the water, and wait for the instrument to cool completely to avoid burns or equipment damage caused by operation in a high temperature state.

2. Drain the old water: Open the drain valve of the instrument water tank, completely empty the old water, and clean the sediment and impurities remaining on the inner wall of the water tank to ensure the cleanliness of the water tank.

3. Inject new water: Select purified water or distilled water that meets the requirements, slowly inject it into the water tank to the specified water level, and strictly prohibit the use of tap water or water containing impurities to prevent scale from clogging the pipeline.

4. Exhaust debugging: Open the circulation system after water injection, discharge the air in the pipeline, and start the test after the water flow is stable to confirm that the instrument is running normally and the test results are stable before it can be put into use.

Precautions for changing water

When changing the water, avoid water splashing on the instrument circuit and core components to prevent short circuits or component damage.

After each water change, a record should be made, including the time of water change and water quality, to facilitate subsequent maintenance and traceability.

- If the instrument is idle for a long time, the water in the water tank needs to be emptied to prevent the water quality from deteriorating and breeding bacteria, and it can be refilled when used again.

Mastering the core points of changing the water for a calorimeter not only guarantees the accuracy of the test data, but also prolongs the service life of the instrument, which is an important part of the daily maintenance of the laboratory.
