Preparation before adding water

Before adding water to the calorimeter, make sure that the calorimeter is turned off and placed on a stable table to avoid adding water errors due to shaking. At the same time, prepare purified or distilled water that meets the requirements, and do not use tap water, because impurities in tap water may affect the accuracy of the experimental results. In addition, check whether the water addition tools, such as special funnels and droppers, are clean and free of pollution to ensure that the water addition process is not disturbed by impurities.

Second, clarify the location and amount of water added

Different types of calorimeters have different water addition locations and water addition requirements. Generally speaking, the water addition port of the calorimeter is located at a specific mark on the side or top of the instrument, and there is usually a clear scale line indicating the amount of water added. When adding water, add it strictly according to the amount specified in the instructions, neither too much nor too little affecting the normal operation of the experiment. If you are not sure about the amount of water added, you can refer to the operation manual attached to the instrument, or consult the manufacturer's technicians for accurate information.

Third, the correct operation steps of adding water

1. Use the funnel to add water: If using the funnel, place the funnel firmly at the water filling port, slowly pour the water into the funnel, pay attention to the uniform flow speed to avoid water splashing. During the pouring process, always pay attention to the scale line. When the water surface is close to the specified scale, slow down the water addition speed and accurately control the water volume.

2. Fine-tuning with the help of the dropper: When the water surface is close to the scale line but not yet up to standard, you can use the dropper to absorb a small amount of water and add it dropwise until the water surface reaches the specified scale. When adding dropwise, the dropper should be kept vertical, and the dropper mouth should not contact the water surface to prevent pollution of the water body.

Fourth, check and confirm after adding water

After the water addition is completed, it is necessary to carefully check whether the calorimeter has water leakage, observe the surrounding area of the water inlet and the bottom of the instrument, and stop using it immediately if water seeps out, check the cause of the water leakage and deal with it. At the same time, check again whether the water addition is accurate, and after confirming that it is correct, the calorimeter can be turned on according to the normal process for follow-up experimental operations.

Mastering the correct method of adding water to the calorimeter is the key to ensuring the accuracy of the experimental data. Only by strictly following the above steps and standardizing the operation can the calorimeter perform at its best and provide reliable support for the experiment.
