When using a calorimeter to carry out experimental work, changing the water is an important part of ensuring the accuracy and stability of the instrument, and the control of the water change cycle directly affects the reliability of the experimental results. So, how often is it appropriate to change the water for a calorimeter?

First, the core factors affecting the water change cycle

The water change cycle of a calorimeter is not fixed and needs to be comprehensively judged in combination with various factors. The first is the frequency of use of the instrument. If the daily high load operation, the water body is heated, evaporated and the accumulation of impurities is fast, and the water change cycle needs to be shortened accordingly; on the contrary, if the frequency of use is low, it can be appropriately extended. Secondly, the experimental environment, high temperature and high humidity environment can easily accelerate the deterioration of the water body, which will also promote the water change cycle to advance. In addition, the nature of the experimental sample is also very critical. If the sample contains volatile and easily polluting substances, it will accelerate the water pollution and require more frequent water changes.

Second, conventional water change cycle reference

In routine laboratory use scenarios, if the calorimeter is used continuously for 4-6 hours a day, it is recommended to change the water every 3-5 days; if the frequency of use is low, the daily use time is less than 2 hours, and it can be changed every 7-10 days. However, it should be noted that this is only a basic reference. Once the water body is found to be turbid, odor or the temperature stability of the instrument decreases, the water should be changed immediately even if it has not reached the regular cycle.

III. The correct steps for the water change operation

1. Preparation for power failure: Be sure to cut off the power supply of the calorimeter before changing the water, and wait for the instrument to cool to room temperature to avoid the risk of electric shock or burns.

2. Drainage cleaning: Open the instrument drain valve, completely drain the old water, and then wipe the internal sink of the instrument with a clean soft cloth to remove residual scale and impurities.

3. Water injection specification: Inject purified water or distilled water that meets the requirements. The water level should be strictly controlled within the scale range marked by the instrument. Excessive or excessive water injection will affect the performance of the instrument.

4. Check the reset: After the water injection is completed, carefully check whether the connecting parts are sealed, turn on the power supply after confirming that it is correct, and then carry out the experiment after the instrument is running stably.

Fourth, maintenance points after changing the water

After changing the water, regularly observe the state of the water body. If the water quality is found to be deteriorating, change the water again in time. At the same time, deep clean the water tank and pipeline of the calorimeter every 1-2 months to prevent scale accumulation from affecting the heat dissipation and measurement accuracy of the instrument. In addition, establish a water change record ledger to record the time and water quality of each water change in detail, so as to grasp the running status of the instrument in time.
