The importance of calorimeter calibration

As a key instrument for accurately measuring heat, calorimeters are widely used in many fields such as energy and chemical industry. Its measurement accuracy directly affects the accuracy of experimental results and production data, and calibration is the core link to ensure the accurate operation of calorimeters. Regular calibration of calorimeters can effectively eliminate instrument errors, ensure reliable measurement data, and provide solid support for scientific research and production.

Preparation before calibration

1. Confirmation of environmental conditions: Calibration should be carried out in an environment with stable temperature (15-30 ° C) and suitable humidity (≤ 80% RH) to avoid temperature and humidity fluctuations interfering with the calibration results. At the same time, ensure that the laboratory is free from obvious vibration and strong electromagnetic interference to create a stable environment for calibration.

2. Preparation of reference materials: Proven benzoic acid reference materials are selected, and their calorific value is accurate and stable. At the same time, auxiliary materials such as ignition wire and oxygen are prepared to ensure the smooth calibration process.

3. Instrument inspection: carefully check the appearance of the calorimeter to confirm that no parts are damaged or loose. Check the sealing of the oxygen bomb to ensure that there is no leakage after oxygenation; check the ignition system to ensure reliable ignition.

Specific calibration steps

1. Instrument preheating: Turn on the calorimeter, preheat according to the instructions, generally preheat for 30-60 minutes, so that the instrument reaches a stable working state.

2. Sampling and installation: accurately weigh the appropriate amount of benzoic acid standard material, press it into pieces and put it into the crucible, install the ignition wire, and connect the oxygen bomb. Fill the oxygen bomb with an appropriate amount of oxygen, and the pressure is controlled at 2.8-3.0MPa.

3. Start calibration: Put the oxygen bomb into the inner cylinder of the calorimeter, close the instrument cover, and start the calibration procedure. The instrument automatically completes the ignition, heat measurement and other processes, and records the measurement data.

4. Repeat measurement: To improve calibration accuracy, repeat the above measurement steps 3-5 times, and take the average of multiple measurement results as the final calibration data.

Calibration result determination and adjustment

Compare the measured average calorific value with the standard calorific value of benzoic acid reference material. If the deviation is within the allowable range, the calibration of the calorimeter is qualified; if the deviation exceeds the allowable range, the parameters of the calorimeter need to be adjusted. Adjust the relevant calibration parameters according to the instrument operation manual until the measurement results meet the requirements.

Maintenance and recording after calibration

After the calibration is completed, clean the instrument in time to keep the calorimeter clean. Record the calibration time, reference material information, calibration data and adjustment in detail, and establish a complete calibration file to facilitate subsequent instrument management and traceability. Through a standardized calibration process, ensure that the calorimeter always maintains an accurate measurement state.
