In the laboratory, a calorimeter is a key device for accurately measuring the heat of a substance, and correctly adding water to the calorimeter is the basis for ensuring its stable operation and obtaining accurate data. The following is a detailed introduction to the method of adding water for you.

Preparation before adding water

Turn off the power supply of the calorimeter first, and wait for the instrument to cool completely to avoid high temperature burns and prevent thermal expansion and contraction from affecting the accuracy of the instrument. Prepare purified water or distilled water, impurity water is easy to clog the pipeline and corrode parts. At the same time, prepare clean measuring cups, droppers and other water addition tools to ensure that the water addition process is accurate and controllable.

Precise water addition steps

Open the water filling port of the calorimeter, tilt the measuring cup, slowly pour in the water, and pay attention to the water level scale. Different models of calorimeters have different capacities. Add water strictly according to the capacity marked in the manual. The water level should neither be lower than the lowest scale nor higher than the highest scale, otherwise it will affect the accuracy of heat measurement. If it is close to the scale line, use a dropper to fine-tune to precisely control the amount of water.

Inspection after adding water

After adding water, carefully check the pipeline connection to see if there is any leakage or water seepage. Shake the instrument lightly to see if the water is stable and no bubbles remain. If there are bubbles, tap the instrument shell to cause the bubbles to discharge and prevent the bubbles from interfering with heat transfer and affecting the test results.

Precautions for adding water

Regularly clean the periphery of the water outlet to prevent dust and debris from mixing into the water. The frequency of adding water depends on the frequency of use. When used frequently, it is recommended to check the water volume before each use; restart after long-term idleness, and comprehensively check the water system. Operate strictly in accordance with the specifications, so that the calorimeter always maintains the best working condition and provides reliable data support for the experiment.
